The Lhasa–Yarlung Tsangpo Expressway’s section near Gongga Airport has been equipped with cutting-edge smart technologies: a vehicle over-temperature warning system and multi‑function cameras, ensuring safe and smooth travel on the plateau.
Recently, the Chabala Service Area to Dazhuka section of the Lhasa–Shigatse Airport segment of the Ya’an–Yecheng National Expressway has undergone a major upgrade. A vehicle over-temperature warning system and multi‑function cameras have been officially put into operation, bolstering the safety safeguards along this high‑altitude expressway.
The Lhari Airport section of the Yaye Expressway is a vital transportation artery connecting Lhasa and Shigatse, playing a crucial role in regional economic development and improving people’s livelihoods. The route traverses complex terrain and experiences highly variable weather conditions, posing significant challenges to the safe operation of the highway. The newly commissioned vehicle over‑temperature early‑warning system leverages advanced infrared thermal imaging technology and intelligent algorithms to monitor, in real time, the temperatures of critical components such as tires and engines. When abnormal temperatures are detected, the system promptly issues alerts via audible and visual alarms and text messages, simultaneously notifying both drivers and management authorities, thereby prompting drivers to take timely cooling measures and helping to prevent serious accidents—such as fires or tire blowouts—caused by overheating at their source.
The multi‑function camera, deployed simultaneously, integrates vehicle detection, license‑plate recognition, traffic‑incident detection, and other capabilities into a single device. In routine monitoring, it accurately captures traffic‑flow data and identifies vehicles in violation; when a traffic accident or road anomaly occurs, it promptly locks onto the scene, providing critical information to support emergency response. In addition, in response to traffic incidents detected by multi‑function cameras, the authorities swiftly allocate resources and take timely action to maintain smooth traffic flow.
