Zhaokua–Luxi Expressway Tunnel Over-Temperature Early Warning System: Setting a New Benchmark for Safe Travel

The Zhaolu Expressway has activated its tunnel over-temperature early-warning system, further enhancing travel safety.

Recently, the Zhaoqua–Luxi Expressway has implemented a significant safety upgrade: the tunnel over-temperature early-warning system has been officially put into operation. The launch of this system marks a crucial step forward in enhancing the expressway’s tunnel safety management, ensuring a safer and more reliable travel experience for drivers and passengers alike.

The Zhaokua–Luxi Expressway is a vital transportation corridor linking Qujing City and Honghe Prefecture, playing a crucial role in regional economic development. Along its tunnel sections, the relatively enclosed spatial characteristics mean that even a slight overheating of a vehicle can easily trigger fires or other serious accidents, posing a significant threat to public safety and property. Previously, relying on conventional manual inspections, this approach suffered from issues such as untimely monitoring and limited coverage, making it difficult to meet the growing demands for traffic safety.

The tunnel overheating early‑warning system now in operation employs advanced infrared thermal imaging technology and intelligent data‑analysis algorithms. It enables real-time, high‑precision temperature monitoring of critical vehicle components—such as the engine and tires—along the tunnel. When the system detects that the temperature of any vehicle component exceeds a pre‑set safety threshold, it immediately triggers an audible and visual alarm and simultaneously transmits the warning to the monitoring center. Based on this information, monitoring‑center personnel can promptly take corrective action, such as issuing alerts via the tunnel’s public‑address system to advise drivers to safely pull over to a designated area for inspection and troubleshooting, thereby effectively preventing safety incidents caused by vehicle overheating.

To ensure the stable operation of the tunnel over‑temperature early‑warning system, the Zhaolu Expressway management has established a comprehensive maintenance and emergency response mechanism. On the one hand, it assigns specialized technical personnel to conduct regular inspections and maintenance, thereby ensuring the proper functioning of the equipment. On the other hand, it has developed a detailed emergency plan that clearly defines the responsibilities and operational procedures of each department in responding to over‑temperature warning incidents, thus enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of emergency response efforts.

The activation of the tunnel over‑temperature early‑warning system on the Zhaolu Expressway is a vivid demonstration of the highway management authorities’ commitment to the principle of “putting the people first and life above all else.” Moving forward, the authorities will continue to increase investment in the construction and management of traffic safety infrastructure, steadily enhancing the expressway’s level of intelligence and digitalization, thereby creating a safer, smoother, and more comfortable travel experience for drivers and passengers alike.
