Qinglan Expressway Changzhi–Yan’an Connector, Lihuo Section: Unveiling Vehicle Over-Temperature Monitoring Technology

The Qinglan Expressway’s Licheng–Huozhou section has activated its vehicle over-temperature monitoring system, further enhancing safety for drivers and passengers.

Recently, the Licheng–Huozhou section of the Qinglan National Expressway’s Changzhi–Yan’an Connector (G2211) in Shanxi Province has implemented a significant safety upgrade: the vehicle over-temperature monitoring system has officially been put into operation. The commissioning of this system will effectively enhance road safety on the expressway, providing motorists with a safer and more reliable travel experience.

The Qinglan Expressway’s Licheng–Huozhou section spans 150.548 kilometers and constitutes a key segment of both the national expressway network’s “Sixth Horizontal Route” and Shanxi Province’s expressway network’s “Tenth Horizontal Route.” Running from east to west, it passes through Licheng County, Luzhou District, Xiangyuan County, Qinxian County, Qinyuan County in Changzhi City, as well as Gu County and Huozhou City in Linfen City. The route traverses complex terrain, featuring numerous long uphill grades and tunnels, among other challenging sections. During operation, heavy trucks subject their engines to prolonged high‑load conditions, while their tires experience frequent friction with the road surface, often leading to overheating. Such conditions pose significant risks to road traffic safety.

The vehicle overheating monitoring system now in operation leverages advanced infrared thermal imaging technology and intelligent data‑analysis algorithms to continuously and accurately track the temperatures of critical components—such as tires, brake discs, and the engine—on passing vehicles. When the system detects that a particular component exceeds its safety threshold, it promptly issues an alert via audible and visual alarms, text messages, and other channels, notifying both the driver and the highway management authorities. This early warning enables drivers to take timely cooling measures, thereby preventing serious incidents such as fires or tire blowouts caused by overheating.

To ensure the system’s stable operation and effective early warning, the highway management authority has also established a comprehensive emergency response mechanism. Upon receiving an over‑temperature alert, staff promptly contact the driver, guide them to safely pull over at a nearby service area or emergency lane, and provide the necessary technical support and assistance. At the same time, the authorities meticulously record and analyze the relevant data of overheated vehicles, enabling the timely identification of potential safety risks and the optimization of the system’s warning parameters and response procedures.

The launch of the vehicle over‑temperature monitoring system marks a significant innovation and breakthrough in road safety management along the Qinglan Expressway between Licheng and Huozhou. Moving forward, the expressway authorities will continue to closely monitor the system’s performance, iteratively refine and enhance its features, and ensure safe travel for all drivers and passengers.
