Detailed Explanation of the Vehicle Over-Temperature Early Warning System for National Highway 318 Between Lhasa and Shigatse Airport

The Lhasa–Shigatse Airport section of National Highway 318 has activated a vehicle over-temperature early-warning system to ensure travel safety.

To further enhance road traffic safety, the Lhasa–Shigatse Airport section of National Highway 318 has officially put into operation a vehicle over‑temperature early‑warning system. The system’s deployment will effectively help prevent accidents caused by overheating of vehicle components, providing drivers and passengers with a safer, more reliable travel experience.

The Lhasa–Shigatse Airport section of National Highway 318 serves as a vital transportation artery linking Lhasa with Shigatse Airport, experiencing heavy traffic, including numerous long-distance passenger and freight vehicles. During extended driving, vehicle components such as tires and brakes are prone to overheating due to friction, which not only accelerates wear but, in severe cases, can lead to tire blowouts or vehicle fires—posing significant risks to road safety.

The newly commissioned vehicle overheating warning system leverages advanced infrared thermal imaging technology to monitor key components—such as tires and brake discs—of passing vehicles in real time. When the temperature of any component exceeds a predefined safety threshold, the system immediately triggers an alert, which is communicated to drivers and road‑management authorities via roadside display screens and an integrated management platform. Upon receiving the alert, drivers can promptly take corrective actions, such as reducing speed or pulling over to allow the components to cool, thereby preventing potential accidents. Meanwhile, road‑management agencies can swiftly respond based on the warning data, guiding affected vehicles and taking appropriate measures to address the issue.

“This over‑temperature warning system is like installing a ‘health monitor’ on each vehicle, providing round‑the‑clock, uninterrupted protection for road safety,” said the official responsible for managing this section of the roadway. “In the past, we relied primarily on manual inspections and drivers’ own observations to detect overheating issues, which often led to significant delays. With this new system, we can issue early warnings and take prompt corrective action, greatly enhancing both the efficiency and precision of road safety management.”

It is understood that, to ensure the system’s stable operation and effective performance, the relevant authorities conducted extensive preliminary research, testing, and debugging, and provided specialized training for staff. In addition, a comprehensive emergency response mechanism has been established to address potential contingencies.

The implementation of the vehicle over‑temperature early‑warning system represents a key measure to enhance road safety management along the Lhasa–Shigatse Airport section of National Highway 318, and it also offers valuable lessons for improving safety management on other roads in the Tibet Autonomous Region. Looking ahead, as technology continues to advance and be applied, we can expect even more cutting‑edge solutions to be deployed in road traffic safety assurance, helping to ensure safe and smooth travel for all.
