Temperature measurement equipment upgrade project for the section of G8513 National Expressway from Wudu to Jiuzhaigou, Pingliang to Mianyang

G8513 Wudu-Jiuzhaigou Expressway deploys temperature monitoring equipment to ensure tunnel driving safety

Recently, the Pingliang-Mianyang National Expressway (G8513) Wudu-Jiuzhaigou section has completed a significant safety infrastructure upgrade—the full deployment of temperature monitoring equipment. This deployment is a key measure to improve the safety of tunnel operations on this section of the expressway, aiming to further protect the safety of drivers and passengers.

The Wudu-Jiuzhaigou Expressway, a crucial transportation link between Gansu and Sichuan provinces, is of great significance to regional economic development and tourism resource exploitation. The expressway is 100.14 kilometers long, starting in Jugan Township, Wudu District, and connecting to the Lanzhou-Haikou National Expressway (G75) Wudu-Guanzi Gou section via an interchange. It passes through several townships and ends at Qinglong Bridge (Gansu-Sichuan border), connecting to the Mianyang-Jiuzhaigou Expressway in Sichuan Province. The terrain along the route is complex, with numerous tunnels. When vehicles travel through tunnels, the enclosed environment and limited ventilation can cause the temperature of key parts such as the engine and tires to become excessively high due to prolonged operation, posing safety risks.

The newly deployed temperature monitoring equipment uses advanced infrared thermal imaging technology to accurately monitor the temperature of vehicle engines, tires, and other parts in real-time. The equipment is installed at tunnel entrances and key locations. When a vehicle passes, the system quickly captures the temperature data of relevant vehicle parts and compares it to preset safety thresholds. If an abnormal temperature is detected, the equipment immediately triggers an audible and visual alarm and transmits the warning information to the monitoring center. Upon receiving the alarm, the monitoring center staff will immediately use the tunnel broadcasting system to remind the driver to safely park the vehicle in the emergency parking area for inspection and cooling, preventing serious accidents such as fires or tire blowouts caused by overheating.

To ensure the stable and efficient operation of the temperature monitoring equipment, the Wudu-Jiuzhaigou Expressway management department has established a comprehensive equipment maintenance and emergency response mechanism. On the one hand, a professional technical team is assigned to regularly inspect, calibrate, and maintain the equipment, promptly addressing any operational issues. On the other hand, detailed emergency plans have been developed for temperature warnings, clarifying the responsibilities of each department and the emergency handling procedures to improve emergency response speed and collaborative capabilities.

The application of temperature monitoring equipment on the Wudu-Jiuzhaigou Expressway is an important practice in the intelligent and safe management of expressways. In the future, the Wudu-Jiuzhaigou Expressway management department will continue to monitor the effectiveness of the equipment, continuously optimize and improve related functions, further enhance the safety protection capabilities of the expressway, create a safer, smoother, and more comfortable travel environment for drivers and passengers, and contribute to regional economic and social development.
