Jiangxi’s first smart highway, the Ningding Expressway, has been completed.

Oct 09,2017

Jiangxi’s first smart highway, the Ningding Expressway, has been completed.

This National Day holiday, drivers traveling on the Ningdu–Dingnan Expressway within Ganzhou will notice numerous smart devices along the route—road‑condition information boards visible overhead and intelligent monitoring systems installed in special sections such as slope‑side tunnels. This is the province’s first smart expressway.

Smart system at service areas guides parking.

The Ningdu–Dingnan Expressway begins at its junction with the Changning (Nanchang–Ningdu) Expressway and terminates near the Laocheng Toll Station on the Daguan Expressway (at the Jiangxi–Guangdong border) via the Dingnan Connector.

Traveling south from Nanchang along the Changning–Ningding Expressway, within Anyuan County and at the foot of Sanbai Mountain—the source of the Dongjiang River—a smart service area integrating leisure, shopping, refueling, and other amenities—Sanbai Mountain Service Area—has come into view. Before entering the service area, drivers… 1 Within a kilometer radius, information boards provide real-time updates on service area foot traffic, available parking spaces, and gas station queue lengths, enabling drivers to plan ahead. Upon entering the service area, an intelligent parking guidance system at the entrance directs vehicles to automatically park in vacant spots. Vehicles that enter the service area are seamlessly connected to its free… WiFi In the service hall, drivers and crew can use self-service kiosks to access information on the layout of service-area facilities and real-time highway traffic conditions across the province.

Smart road network monitoring alerts vehicles to overheating and overpressure.

While traveling on the Ningding Expressway, at critical sections such as high embankments, tunnels, long-grade stretches, interchange hubs, and foggy areas, a network of monitoring devices continuously collects essential operational data. On particularly long downhill grades, the monitoring system provides real-time tracking of passing trucks’ speed, tire pressure, tire temperature, and cargo‑compartment temperature. When overheating or overpressure is detected, roadside information panels, flashing warning lights, and directional broadcast systems promptly alert approaching vehicles and guide them into designated safety zones.

The Ningding Expressway has established a rapid emergency rescue and command‑dispatch system. When a vehicle is involved in an accident, the driver can call the emergency hotline, and the emergency command platform will accurately pinpoint the vehicle’s location, predict potential traffic congestion, and activate a traffic‑diversion plan based on the congestion conditions along the affected stretch. Subsequently, via automated SMS messages to drivers and real-time alerts on electronic message boards, vehicles approaching the scene are advised to bypass the congested area, thereby alleviating traffic pressure in the accident zone.
