Maritime infrared systems are advancing toward integrated convergence, with the synergistic application of thermal imaging and radar continuing to deepen.

Maritime infrared sensing is evolving from standalone night‑vision capabilities toward multi‑sensor collaborative functionality. According to FLIR Marine’s June 2025 release, its maritime camera systems are enhancing video tracking and radar integration, enabling linkage with AIS and ARPA/MARPA targets to achieve automatic target steering, continuous tracking, and reduced operator workload. The materials further note that these capabilities have been implemented in models such as the M400XR and M500, supporting seamless switching between thermal imaging and ultra‑low‑light visible‑light modes without interrupting tracking.

This indicates that the focus of maritime infrared systems has shifted from merely “clearly identifying targets” at night to further enhancing capabilities in continuous target tracking, complex‑environment recognition, and navigation coordination. For applications such as patrol and law enforcement, port security, maritime search and rescue, commercial vessel navigation, and marine firefighting, multi‑sensor integration will become a key direction for the development of infrared systems.
