Methane emission reduction regulation continues to advance, and infrared OGI detection is being adopted across a broader range of industrial applications.

As the global energy sector increasingly tightens its requirements for methane emission reductions, leak detection, and compliance monitoring, optical gas imaging (OGI) technology based on infrared thermal imaging is gaining momentum. According to FLIR’s 2025 public disclosures, EU methane‑reduction regulations have entered the enforcement phase; these requirements not only emphasize leak detection but also mandate the quantification of emissions, thereby further enhancing the value of infrared OGI systems in inspections across the oil and gas, LNG, storage and transportation, and chemical industries.

From an industry‑trend perspective, infrared thermal imaging–based gas detection is evolving from “leak detection” to a more comprehensive capability that encompasses “detection, localization, quantification, and documentation.” For industrial users, this means that on‑site inspection tools are gradually transforming into more systematic, digitalized safety‑management solutions. Demand for infrared monitoring of methane, volatile organic compounds, and abnormal emissions in key areas is expected to continue growing.
